The Hebrew midwives feared God more than Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. Thus the midwives were unable to obey Pharaoh's order to kill the male children when they were born. The Hebrew midwives were fully aware that the Israelites were a nation that began with God. However, although the Israelites lived peacefully in Egypt through a person like Joseph by God's grace, they became the salt that lost the salty taste, and were trampled by the Egyptians because they did not live a life that thoroughly feared God and, after Joseph's death, time passed and the king and other politicians were unaware of why the Israelites were in Egypt.

In spite of the fear of the midwives, Pharaoh became even more vicious and ordered that any male Hebrew child be thrown into the Nile at birth. If we fear God and serve God well, we may think that the world will be affected and people will return to God, but the Bible tells us the contrary. The more we fear God and obey the words of God in the world, the worse the world becomes, and even becomes a world that legalizes objects that are regarded as sins in the Bible as no sins.

However, the reason we must not be disappointed is that this non-biblical worldview has always existed in the world, and history always repeats itself. What God requires of us is not to confront the world directly, but to adhere to the word of God without being shaken even though the world invariably and always opposes God's word. The reason for this is that humans are unable to change the flow of the Nile. Like Moses who was placed in a basket waterproofed with tar and pitch after being made by breaking papyrus reeds growing around the Nile River, we are on a place waterproofed from sins with the blood of Jesus where we float on the great Nile River of the world to be saved. There is no human zeal or hard work in the place of salvation. That is why the more we understand the Word, the more we deny ourselves.
